The China Mining Federation of Nigeria has dismissed allegations of “Chinese infiltration” in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector, describing the claims as false, misleading, and without factual basis.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Federation reacted to allegations circulating on some media platforms accusing Chinese nationals of engaging in illegal mining, taking control of strategic mineral resources, undermining Nigeria’s economic and social development, degrading the local environment, and allegedly funding terrorist activities in the country.

The Federation categorically rejected the claims, insisting that Chinese mining companies operating in Nigeria have consistently adhered to Nigerian laws and regulatory frameworks under the guidance of the Chinese government.

“We solemnly state that Chinese mining companies in Nigeria have always strictly complied with Nigeria’s laws and regulations, in accordance with the guidance of the Chinese government,” the statement read. “While conducting business in compliance with the law, these companies actively cooperate with Nigerian government departments to strengthen mining governance.”

According to the Federation, Chinese mining firms have played a constructive role in supporting Nigeria’s industrial transformation and upgrading within the solid minerals sector. It noted that these companies have made significant investments, established local processing factories, and employed Nigerian workers.

“These measures have not only boosted local employment but also enabled Nigeria to retain greater added value, turning resource endowments into tangible development dividends,” the Federation stated.

The organisation further said Chinese mining companies have contributed positively to China–Nigeria mining cooperation by engaging in community development initiatives, fulfilling their social responsibilities, and implementing environmental protection measures in their areas of operation.
Addressing allegations linking Chinese firms to terrorism, the Federation described such claims as “completely unfounded,” stressing that Chinese mining companies in Nigeria have themselves suffered attacks from terrorist activities.

“It must be emphasised that Chinese mining companies in Nigeria have themselves been victims of terrorist activities. They have always supported and remain willing to cooperate with the Nigerian government in safeguarding national security, with the shared aim of operating and living in a secure and stable environment,” the statement added.

The Federation urged the Nigerian media and the general public to assess the activities of Chinese mining companies objectively and avoid spreading misinformation capable of undermining bilateral relations between Nigeria and China.

“We hope that the media and friends from all sectors in Nigeria will view and report on the cooperation and operations of Chinese mining companies in an objective and fair manner, and will not allow themselves to be used by those with ill motives to spread false information and undermine the cooperation and friendship between our two countries,” it said.

Reaffirming its commitment to partnership, the Federation expressed readiness to continue collaborating with the Nigerian government and other stakeholders to deepen mining cooperation, support economic growth, and promote social development.

“The Federation stands ready to work with the Nigerian government and all sectors of society to further deepen mining cooperation, support Nigeria’s economic and social development, and deliver greater benefits to our two peoples,” the statement concluded.
