Lawmakers of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly have declared their support for the party’s arrangement for executive members at all levels to emerge through consensus.
Briefing journalists shortly after the 9th Caucus meeting at the State Assembly complex in Lafia on Tuesday, the Majority Leader of the House, Suleiman Yakubu Azara, said the lawmakers adopted the consensus option because it would reduce tension and prevent crises among party members.

He recalled that the 9th Caucus meeting of APC lawmakers in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly was convened to appraise the decision of the party leadership to adopt a consensus method for electing the party’s flag bearer in the state.
According to him, the meeting was also aimed at fostering unity and discussing the way forward for the party’s progress beyond 2027 in the state.
The meeting, which held in the office of the Majority Leader, was attended by the Speaker of the House, Dr Danladi Jatau, his Deputy, Muhammad Adamu Oyanki, and other APC lawmakers.
Azara expressed confidence in the party leadership at all levels, noting that the lawmakers were united in their resolve to support the party.
“We have discussed issues of unity, peace and progress of the party. We are united and we will remain united and loyal to the party in the state.
“We have also declared our support for the party’s arrangements on consensus regarding the upcoming congresses. What our leaders and party stakeholders discussed and agreed upon at the last meeting in Government House on the forthcoming congresses is the position we have adopted.
“We have agreed with the party’s position on consensus in the interest of unity, peace, progress and development of the party. We have confidence in our party leadership,” he said.
The Majority Leader further assured that APC lawmakers would continue to synergise with stakeholders and party members to ensure the party’s victory beyond 2027 in the state. He also reaffirmed their readiness and commitment to teamwork for the progress of the House.
“We will continue to work in unity and synergise with stakeholders and government for the progress of the state,” he added.
