Court Approves ₦500m Bail Each for Malami, Wife and Son Under Strict Conditions
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail in the sum of ₦500 million each to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), his wife, and their son in their respective criminal cases.
The trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, imposed stringent bail conditions, directing that each defendant must present two sureties with verifiable landed property located in Abuja’s highbrow areas of Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarinpa.
The court further ordered that the title documents of the said properties be deposited with the court for verification by the Deputy Chief Registrar. The sureties are also required to depose to affidavits of means to establish their financial capability.
Additionally, Malami was directed to surrender his travel documents to the court and was restrained from travelling outside the country without prior approval of the court.
Malami, his wife, and son are currently facing trial over allegations of fraud and money laundering instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
