Ebonyi Bishop Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Exploitation of Female Sickle Cell Patient
By Our Correspondent
A Bishop in Ebonyi State has been arrested for allegedly engaging in marathon sex with a female sickle cell patient under the pretext of changing her genotype from SS to AA.
The cleric, identified as Bishop Ndibueze Onyagoziri Okorie, is the General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral. He was arrested by operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command.
According to reports, the victim, a 22-year-old woman battling sickle cell anemia, is seeking justice after the purported “spiritual solution” failed to cure her condition.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Joshua Ukandu, said the suspect was in custody while investigations were ongoing.
“Yes, the Bishop is with us here at the police headquarters, Abakaliki. I don’t have any other information at the moment; the matter is still under investigation. On Wednesday, October 1st, he was arrested by our men and brought to the state police command over the act,” the PPRO stated.
Further findings revealed that the victim had been living with the cleric based on an arrangement between her family and the church, with hopes of receiving divine healing for her ailment.
However, she alleged that the Bishop later assured her that a seven-day sexual encounter with him was all she needed for her genotype to change. Driven by desperation—having already lost three siblings to the illness—she consented.
The victim lamented that after the period of sexual intercourse, her health condition worsened, prompting her to confide in her elder sister, who insisted she return home.
She further alleged that the cleric threatened to release intimate photos of their encounters if she left him. Eventually, after returning to her village, she claimed to have discovered that her nude pictures with the Bishop had been posted on social media.
In his defense, Bishop Onyagoziri denied the allegations, insisting he never engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim. He alleged that his phone had been stolen and that unidentified persons had used artificial intelligence to create and circulate the compromising images online.
