Edo Govt Approves Revised 2025 Supplementary Budget of N799.8 Billion
The Edo State Executive Council has approved a revised supplementary budget of N799.820 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, up from the earlier N675.220 billion. This represents an increase of about N125 billion, or 18 percent.
The approval was given during an emergency executive meeting held on Monday, September 29, 2025, and presided over by the Chairman-in-Council and Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
Speaking after the meeting, the Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, explained the reasons for the adjustment, noting the administration’s strong commitment to infrastructure development.
“Initially, the budget stood at N675 billion, with recurrent expenditure at about 33 percent and capital at 67 percent. In the revised budget, 70 percent is allocated to capital expenditure, while recurrent stands at 30 percent. This demonstrates Governor Monday Okpebholo’s dedication to infrastructural growth in Edo State,” Okoebor stated.
Breaking down the figures, he said: “The increment amounts to N125 billion, representing an 18 percent rise over the previous budget. Of this, recurrent expenditure increased by N12 billion, while capital expenditure rose by N113 billion — a 25 percent increase for capital and 5 percent for recurrent.
“This clearly shows the government’s focus on infrastructure, aimed at improving the lives of Edo people. So far, about 254km of roads have been completed across the state, with several more projects ongoing.
“The 5 percent rise in recurrent spending reflects adjustments for the new minimum wage and additional employments, including over 1,000 new staff recruited into the hospital management board, which needed to be captured.”
According to the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu, the revised supplementary budget will now be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.
