EgyptAir Allegedly Maltreats Nigerian Passengers, Denies Them Their Rights
On Saturday, February 1, 2026, EgyptAir flight MS879 from Cairo to Abuja and Kano reportedly subjected Nigerian passengers to what many described as inhumane treatment and a blatant denial of their rights.
The Abuja-bound flight, initially scheduled to depart at 9:00 a.m., was first delayed to 12:00 noon, then rescheduled to 3:30 p.
A similar situation affected passengers on the Cairo–Kano route, who were also left stranded without any official explanation from the airline.
Reports further indicate that some business class passengers were downgraded to economy class without prior notice or justification, leaving many travelers uncertain about their travel arrangements.
Passengers who approached EgyptAir staff to inquire about compensation were reportedly informed that only European passengers delayed for more than five hours were entitled to compensation, including monetary payments of up to $600.
This incident comes shortly after a similar case of alleged maltreatment of Nigerian passengers by Saudi Arabian Airlines. In that instance, Saudi authorities were compelled to issue a formal apology to the Nigerian government.
