Police in Uganda have launched an intensive investigation following the brutal killing of an elderly couple at their home in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Cell, Kiwafu Ward, Division ‘A’, Entebbe Municipality.

David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga, 62, were found dead in their residence with multiple stab wounds, in what authorities suspect to be a violent robbery. The couple had recently resettled in Uganda after spending decades in Switzerland.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, officers from Entebbe Police Station were alerted and arrived at the scene to find both victims lying in pools of blood, bearing signs of a vicious attack.

“The victims were found with deep stab wounds. Early findings suggest the perpetrators used sharp weapons and likely entered the home intending to rob,” Onyango said in a statement released Monday.

Several witnesses have provided statements, including Ronald Golooba, a family friend who raised the alarm; Daphine Naudo, the housemaid who discovered the bodies; and neighbors who reported suspicious noises and movements on the night of the incident.

Forensic teams examined the scene and collected vital evidence, such as fingerprints, blood samples, and disturbed household items possibly linked to the attack.

The bodies have been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem to establish the precise cause and time of death.

Investigators are currently tracing the couple’s recent activities, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby properties, and questioning more residents for clues that might lead to the perpetrators.

Though no arrests have been made yet, SSP Onyango confirmed that police are actively following multiple leads and urged members of the public with relevant information to come forward.

The murder has intensified concerns about rising violent crime in the Kampala-Entebbe area. So far in 2025, Entebbe Municipality has recorded 11 homicides—an increase from the same period last year. The wider Kampala Metropolitan Police region has reported 94 murders this year, 21 of which were linked to aggravated robbery.

Local leaders and residents are calling for stronger security measures, including enhanced police patrols, community watch initiatives, and wider installation of CCTV in vulnerable neighborhoods.

“This is a heartbreaking loss,” said a neighbor, who chose to remain anonymous. “They were kind, quiet people. We’re devastated and living in fear. We want those responsible brought to justice.”
