FCT FRSC Arrests 250 Commercial Drivers in Two Days for Traffic Violations
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that it apprehended over 250 commercial drivers within the last two days for offences including overloading and carrying two passengers in the front seat across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Felix Theman, disclosed this while addressing newsmen, noting that despite several engagements with transport union leaders to secure their cooperation, many taxi operators have continued to disregard the national road traffic regulations and vehicle manufacturers’ passenger and load capacity specifications.
Mr. Theman emphasized that overloading passengers and goods not only endangers lives by preventing the proper use of seatbelts but also places excessive strain on vehicle tyres and suspension systems.
“It impairs the driver’s ability to control the vehicle effectively, especially during emergencies,” he added.
The Sector Commander revealed that beginning next week, mobile courts across the six area councils will be activated to strengthen enforcement efforts and restore sanity to the FCT transport sector.
He urged passengers and commuters to support the FRSC’s initiative, stressing that enforcement remains the most effective and civil means to ensure safety is not sacrificed for convenience.
Mr. Theman also warned commercial drivers operating vehicles below minimum safety standards to upgrade their vehicles or risk immediate impoundment.
