FCT Girls Crowned Regional Champions, Advance to 25th MILO National Secondary School Basketball Finals

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Girls’ Basketball team has emerged as Regional Champions of the 25th MILO National Secondary School Basketball Championship, securing their spot in the National finals slated for Ibadan later this year.

Officially presenting the winning Teams to the Secretary for Education,the Director of School Sports FCT Education Secretariat,Malam Hashimu Adamu explained that the rigorous process the Students went through to qualify adding that the FCT Girls from Government Secondary School, Karu displayed skill and determination, defeating tough opponents from kaduna and Nigeria States respectively,sealing their victory with dominant performances in the semi – finals and finals matches while in a parallel feat, the FCT boys’ team from Government Secondary School, Gwarimpa made a remarkable debut by finishing as first runners-up in the regional competition, commended the Teams the two Teams for their impressive performance in their first – ever appearance,noting their energy and determination to reach the Finals.

Receiving the winning Teams, Dr. Danlami Hayyo expressed his joy over the achievement, stating, “You have brought the FCT into the limelight through the outstanding performance of both our boys’ and girls’ teams.

The Secretary for Education commended their determination and commitment, assuring the Teams of the FCT Administration’s support toward their participation in the National finals.

He added that no effort would be spared in ensuring their success.

Hayyo stated that the performances of the FCT Teams reflect the Honourable Minister’s efforts in School Sports development and the promise of future National and International Champions from the FCT as it’s produce well-rounded students who excel in both academics and extracurricular activities.

In his remarks, the Director of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Mohammed Ladan, reiterated the Board’s unwavering commitment to nurturing young talents through quality training and support.

He expressed confidence that the teams would bring the National trophy home to the FCT.

Speaking on behalf of the students,the captains of the two teams , Diouf Fatima of Government Secondary School, Karu, and Edward Okafor of Government Secondary School, Gwarimpa expressed their delight in being crowned champions. They appreciated the FCT Administration for its support and promised to continue flying the flag of the FCT and Nigeria at large with pride and discipline.

The tournament which was held in Abuja featured spirited competition among leading schools from the region, including Father O’Connell Science College (Minna), Zarumai Model School (Minna), NDA Staff Secondary School (Kaduna), Younik Academy (Lafia), and others.
