The Federal Government College (FGC), Warri, is set to celebrate 60 years of academic excellence, unity and leadership development, with plans to establish a Technology and Innovation Centre for students.
The Global President of the Federal Government College Warri Old Students Association (FEGOCOWOSA), Dr.

Godwin Amobi Alo, disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja ahead of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Dr. Alo said the initiative is aimed at preparing students for the 21st-century global economy through hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), including robotics, artificial intelligence, programming, as well as virtual and augmented reality.
He explained that the centre will also support the Federal Government’s transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT), enabling students to register for and take examinations on-site in line with the country’s digital education agenda.
According to him, the Technology and Innovation Centre is a critical investment that will equip students with relevant skills, foster innovation and enhance critical thinking.
Dr. Alo further disclosed that the school’s ₦3 billion Legacy Fund will also be used to develop a World-Class Sports Complex to promote students’ physical and mental wellbeing, as well as a Post-College Scholarship Endowment to support outstanding graduates pursuing higher education or technical and vocational training.
He said the Diamond Jubilee celebrations will be held in three phases across Lagos, Abuja and Warri to ensure wide participation.
Phase One will take place in Lagos on January 31, 2026, and will feature an Anniversary Ball and Fund-Raising Dinner. Phase Two is scheduled for Abuja on February 5, 2026, and will include keynote addresses, panel discussions, advocacy for educational reform and FEGOCOWOSA’s Annual General Congress.
Phase Three, the grand finale, will hold in Warri from February 12 to 15, 2026, with activities such as a road carnival, commissioning of development projects, school inspection, a special assembly with old students, a student luncheon and an Awards Night on February 14.
Dr. Alo called on alumni, stakeholders and the general public to support the Legacy Fund, stressing that strategic investment in education and skills development is crucial to national competitiveness and human capital growth.
He added that FGC Warri has continued to produce leaders and innovators, reinforcing its position as a STEM-ready institution contributing to Nigeria’s development.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the Diamond Jubilee and former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui Okauru, said the Technology and Innovation Centre aligns with national policies promoting technical, engineering and STEM education.
She noted that the centre, alongside the proposed World-Class Sports Complex and Post-College Scholarship Endowment, will ensure students are adequately prepared for tertiary education and equipped to thrive in the global innovation ecosystem.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the FCT Branch, Mr. Sanmi Ajayi, emphasized the need for effective coordination and communication among committee members ahead of the Abuja event scheduled for February 5, 2026, to guarantee the success of all Diamond Jubilee activities.
