First-Year University Student Found Dead in Boyfriend’s Apartment in Taraba

A first-year student of Mass Communication at Taraba State University (TSU), identified as Comfort Jimtop Oliver, has been found dead in her boyfriend’s apartment in Jalingo, the state capital.

Her body was discovered on Friday, September 12, 2025, inside a room at Bakasi area of Jalingo, close to Dr. Rapha’s quarters, opposite the Vice-Chancellor’s gate.

The late Comfort, a native of Takum Local Government Area and of Kuteb ethnic origin, was said to have died under circumstances yet to be determined.

Investigations into the cause of her death have since commenced. A police officer involved in the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the probe is still at a preliminary stage.

According to him, empty bottles of alcoholic beverages were found beside the bed where her body lay.

“When the matter was reported to our station at the university gate, we arrived to find the house deserted despite having over 15 tenants. The occupant of the room, believed to be her boyfriend, was also missing and has not been seen since.

“We recovered empty bottles of hard drinks beside the bed where she died. The investigation is ongoing,” he said.

Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Police Command for an official statement were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
