The Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State played host to a landmark visit as the Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, toured the area alongside his wife and an eminent delegation. The visit was coordinated by the Secretary to the Government of Taraba State, Chief Barr. G. T. Kataps, with the Executive Chairman of Sardauna Local Government, Hon. M. J. Umar, also in attendance. During the tour, the delegation visited strategic locations, including the Bang–Tamnya border between Nigeria and Cameroon, where Dogara received a warm reception from the local population.
Speaking during the visit, Dogara praised the stunning natural beauty of the Plateau and commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his effective leadership in maintaining peace and stability throughout Taraba State. He said the tour offered him a clearer understanding of the vast potential of the region, highlighting its rich mineral deposits, arable land, and conducive climate, which he noted could play a major role in strengthening Nigeria’s food security if adequately developed. He also applauded the harmonious coexistence among the various communities on the Plateau, describing it as an example worthy of national emulation.
The former Speaker also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the noticeable improvement in security across the North East. According to him, the renewed confidence in the President’s leadership was evident in the large number of Nigerians who travelled to their hometowns during the end-of-year festivities, which he described as a clear sign of growing public trust in government efforts.
Responding on behalf of the host community, the Acting Mbondua of Mbamnga, Alh. Abubakar Sale Ndula, expressed delight at Dogara’s visit, noting that he had long admired the former Speaker’s service to the nation through media reports. He also conveyed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the Gembu–Mbamnga–Yang–Lip Road project, stating that the people of Sardauna Local Government are sincerely grateful for the initiative, which he described as transformative.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Sardauna Local Government, Hon. M. J. Umar, said the visit was a memorable honour during his administration, describing Dogara as a national figure whose contributions have positively impacted Nigerians across the country. The visit concluded with the presentation of the Kam-Kam, a symbolic traditional bag, to Dogara and his wife, signifying the rich cultural heritage of the Mambilla Plateau.
The occasion attracted several notable personalities, including Hon. Abdulazeez Suleiman Titong, representing Gembu Constituency; Hon. Nelson C. Len, representing Nguroje Constituency; and Hon. Gideon Nonso Mbaso, Commissioner for Digital Economy and Innovation in Taraba State, among others. Their presence highlighted the importance of the visit and reflected the pride of the people in hosting a distinguished national leader.
