The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mallam Shehu Mohammed, has cautioned passengers to remain alert and proactive by reporting or warning drivers who display reckless behaviour while driving.

He made the call following a fatal road crash that claimed 10 lives and left 11 others injured on Friday at Apamaru, along the Obajana–Lokoja highway.

The accident involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number KTG 100YL, conveying 21 male passengers at the time of the incident.

According to preliminary findings by the FRSC crash investigation team, the crash resulted from excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking by the driver, who subsequently lost control of the vehicle during a night journey.

Out of the 21 occupants, 10 died on the spot, while 11 sustained various degrees of injuries, including fractures, deep cuts, and bruises.

The injured were taken to a private hospital in Obajana for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the Sarikin Hausawa, Obajana, for burial according to Islamic rites.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, the Corps Marshal warned that night travels, speeding, and dangerous overtaking remain leading causes of fatal road crashes across the country.
