Global Crises: Barau Tasks Nigerians on Nationalism, Seeks Support for Tinubu
By Our Correspondent
Against the backdrop of crises affecting different countries of the world, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has called on Nigerians to be more nationalistic at this time by supporting the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government.
Barau, who made the call while fielding questions from journalists at the National Eid Ground in Abuja on Friday after the two-unit (rakat) prayers led by Professor Illiasu Usman from the National Mosque, said rallying round the federal government would fast-track the journey to the prosperous destination being pursued by President Tinubu.
He specifically mentioned the ongoing war in the Middle East and in some parts of Europe, and their implications in different ways for other countries, as reasons Nigerians need to come together in supporting their government on the home front for easier navigation through the fallouts of the crises.
“What we need at this time is to continue supporting Mr President, all of us, and to continue praying for him so that he can succeed in his efforts to bring prosperity to our nation.
“We are facing global problems that are all over the world. We can see what is happening in the Middle East and other parts of the world.
“The world is full of challenges, and we are not an exception. So what we need at this period is to continue to support the President and pray for our nation, because we know, all of us who are working with him (Mr President), that he is determined to bring prosperity to our nation,” he said.
Barau, immediately after the prayers, congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the world on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant Nigeria the needed unity and wisdom for President Tinubu and other leaders in steering the ship of state to a prosperous destination.
“At the end of the prayers, I felicitated with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON; other leaders, and indeed all Ummah, on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
“May Allah (SWT) help our country, unite our country, and help Mr President in his efforts to reform the country for the better and to bring prosperity to our nation,” he added.
Imam Illiasu Usman, in his remarks after the prayers, tasked Nigerian leaders at all levels to put an end to the issue of insecurity in the country.
According to him, Nigeria has the resources and capacity to deal decisively with any troublemaker or enemy of peace.
“Since genuine development cannot take place in any insecure or violence-ridden society, governments at all levels in Nigeria should intensify their fight against bloodthirsty criminals in our midst,” he said.
