Golden Good Shepherd Schools, Abuja Holds Intercontinental Day, Calls For Inculcation Of Global Culture In Nigerian Students
The Golden Good Shepherd Schools, Abuja has held its Intercontinental Day in Kubwa in the Federal Capital Territory.
The event feathered the culture, food, music among others of people of five countries namely South Korea, South Africa,, Jamaica, Brazil and France.
Speaking during the Intercontinental Day in Kubwa Abuja, the Proprietress of the School, Mrs Ifeoma Anumba said the event is identify and celebrate diversity across the globe, culture, people, places, lifestyle and talents that uniquely identifies people the world over.
Mrs Ifeoma stated that the essence of the Intercontinental Day is to globalized Nigeria’s system and go beyond celebrating African culture because the world is a global community.
She explained that the event was also aimed at promoting peace and unity needed for cultural and economic development.
“”All these while we have been celebrating African culture and in some cases we narrow it down to Nigeria culture and this is not good enough because the world is now a global community because we travel to many nations of the world and we are now bringing their culture home to show that we are all one nation, one world” She added.
In a remark, the Director of Golden Good Shepherd Schools, Abuja, Sir Dr. Donatus Anumba said the Intercontinental Day would also go a long way in exchanging cultural ideas, cultural heritage by imbibing and showcasing the culture of other countries because l am very sure that those countries are also showcasing Nigeria’s culture in their various countries as well.
Sir. Dr. Donatus Anumba who was the Chairman of the event stated that students of Golden Good Shepherd Schools, Abuja stands to benefit immensely from the Intercontinental Day because whenever they travelled to those countries, their culture there would not be new to them again because they’ve learnt much about them thereby assisting them to know how to relate towards achieving their desired goals and objectives.
“It is good to study the culture of other countries so that one will know what they are and the stuff they are made up of as well as what they can offer in terms of tradition ,culture, heritage, style of life and the type of food they eat and so on” He explained.
Sir. Dr. Donatus Anumba therefore advised the Federal Government to introduce the teaching and learning of foreign culture in the nation’s school curriculum to enable Nigerian students be abreast of culture of other countries for better understanding and communication.
“It is only private schools that are committed to showcasing not only Nigeria or Africa culture but also global culture, therefore I want to advice the Federal Government to introduce the study of global culture into the country’s school curriculum to enable students in public schools to also know the culture of other countries of the world and also what they do, known and stand for in the whole world and this will equally serve as an avenue for learning”. He added.
In a goodwill message, the Chairman, Parents Teachers Association, PTA, of the School, Ochommah Williams Azuka commended the Management of Golden Good Shepherd Schools, Abuja, for organizing the Intercontinental Day describing the event as an eye opener to students of the school in the area of global culture.
He therefore advised other schools to emulate Golden Good Shepherd Schools, Abuja towards promoting the teaching and learning of culture of other countries of the world.
Also speaking, some of the Parents, Hajiya Maryam Sadiq Adeniran and Mrs Elizabeth Kingsley equally thanked the school’s Management for maintaining standard in all its Academic programmes and activities most especially for organizing the Intercontinental Day event.
According to them, the interesting and colorful event has also educate parents on the culture and lifestyle of people of other countries of the world.
Some students of the school who are very happy for taking part in the Intercontinental Day called for more extra curriculum programmes and activities that would enhance their educational development.
In the end of the Intercontinental Day event, Brazil emerged overall winners, Jamaica came 2nd, South Africa got 3rd position, 4th position went to South Korea while Brazil went home with 5th position.
The Intercontinental Day programme which featured parade by countries, oral presentation, cultural displays dance by parents, dance and presentations by countries witnessed presentations of trophies and cash prizes to winners and participants.
