By Iyojo Ameh
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has inaugurated the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers to boost electricity supply and promote rural development across 30 communities in the state’s three senatorial districts.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, and made available to journalists.
Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony of Phase One of the statewide rural electrification project held at the Government House, Lokoja, Governor Ododo described the event as a major step toward fulfilling his administration’s promise to light up rural communities and empower citizens.
“It is with great pride and a profound sense of duty that I flag off the first phase of this project — the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers strategically allocated across the three senatorial districts of our beloved state,” he stated.
The Governor explained that the project was initiated in response to requests from various communities submitted through the Ministry of Rural and Energy Development. He added that these requests were treated with priority in line with his administration’s commitment to the welfare of all Kogites, especially those in rural areas.
Governor Ododo stressed that the distribution of transformers would be based on fairness and balanced development.
“In the spirit of fairness and equity, I have directed that these 30 transformers be distributed across the three senatorial districts to ensure that the benefits of this vital infrastructure project are enjoyed simultaneously and equitably across Kogi State,” he said.
He emphasized that the electrification project goes beyond improving power supply, as it also aims to enhance commerce, education, healthcare, and overall quality of life for residents.
“Electricity is vital to our industrial drive and our determination to light up rural areas to boost livelihoods and agriculture. This project is about lighting lives, powering education, driving industry, supporting healthcare, and strengthening community security. It reflects our belief that every part of Kogi State matters,” the Governor added.
Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing people-centered projects and assured that subsequent phases of the electrification initiative would cover more communities across the state.
He urged residents to safeguard the electrical installations against vandalism and make proper use of the facilities for collective benefit.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engr. Abdulmutalib Mohammed, stated that the initiative aligns with the ministry’s mandate to improve living standards in rural areas.
He noted that the ministry conducted detailed technical assessments of community needs before the allocation of transformers and added that additional communities would be included in the next phases.
According to him, the project will significantly enhance daily living conditions and stimulate local economic growth.
The Commissioner commended Governor Ododo for his unwavering commitment to addressing power challenges and fostering development in rural communities across the state.
