The Inspector General of Police, IGP. Kayode Egbetokun, has presented cheques to families of deceased police officers in Benue state

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Benue State Command, CSP. Catherine Anene disclosed this in a statement she signed and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Friday.

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP. Steve Yabanet, who made the presentation on behalf of the IGP, said the cheques worth N72,259,935 million were for 30 beneficiaries of the police welfare scheme.

The IGP said the money cannot replace their loved ones but it is given to families of deceased police officers to cushion the effect of death on families within the first one year of loosing a police officer.

He sympathized with the beneficiaries and advised them to invest the monies into businesses that will help them to become self reliant as they wait for other benefits from the force.

Responding, the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the IGP for remembering them within a very short time and prayed God Almighty to bless him so that he will continue to fight for the rights of police officers.
