Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared his unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he is ready to lay down his life for the party, particularly in his home state.

Speaking with journalists at his Igbere country home on Tuesday, Kalu said the APC remains strong in Abia and that loyalists of the party are committed to securing electoral victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

“APC is strong in Abia. Like I said in my interview, I am ready to lay down my life for the party. I am a member of the party and a strong one at that. I am APC to the core. That’s why APC is strong in Abia North,” Kalu said.

He added, “Our party will work hard to deliver the President in the state. We have done it in the past, and we will do it again in 2027.”

Kalu’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the ruling party’s chances in the Southeast, a region where the Labour Party (LP) made significant gains in the 2023 elections.

The former Senate Chief Whip also addressed concerns raised by the Abia APC chapter regarding his recent visit to Governor Alex Otti. The party leadership had distanced itself from the visit, suggesting it was not in line with its political stance.

Kalu, however, defended his visit, stating that he attended in his personal capacity as a former governor of the state and not on behalf of the APC.

He further asserted that Governor Otti was operating based on the administrative template he developed during his time in office.

“Whatever I said during my visit to Governor Otti was personal. As a former governor of this state, I reserve the right to offer advice or express views,” he said. “Besides, the governor is using my template to run the state.”

Kalu used the occasion to commend President Tinubu’s leadership over the past two years, stating that he deserves the support of all Nigerians to complete his development agenda—particularly in the Southeast.

“The President has done well in the last two years. I am urging Nigerians to come together to support him,” he said.

He expressed optimism about the future of Nigeria’s economy, arguing that the reforms introduced by the administration would begin yielding results soon.

“The economy needs time to bounce back. The President is working to ensure that the economy bounces back. Petroleum subsidy was a big scam. No President or governor wants their citizens to suffer,” he added.

Kalu reiterated that the President’s tough economic measures are necessary to stabilize the country and restore the value of the naira.
