There have been reports of alleged molestation, intimidation and harassment of the Duru family in Ezumona Community, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, reportedly involving Sandra Duru with the backing of security operatives.
Sandra Duru, who refers to herself as Prof. Mgbeke, is said to be the last child of the late Chief B.

C. Duru.
Investigations indicate that she has allegedly continued to use the Mbano Police Station to intimidate and harass members of her family and others in the community over minor disagreements.
According to findings, the most recent incident involved the arrest of Miss Blessing and Ibemere Onyinyechi, domestic staff employed by the family’s heir apparent, Mr. Jeff Duru, to care for their mother, who is in her early 90s.
Sandra Duru, also known as Prof. Mgbeke, who reportedly resides in the United States and has not visited home in the past 15 years, allegedly secured the assistance of a senior police officer to have the two domestic workers arrested and detained at the Isiala Mbano Police Station for five days.
During the period of detention, it was alleged that one of the detainees, Blessing, was taken to a hospital for a pregnancy test by a police officer said to be acting under Sandra Duru’s influence. The two women were subsequently transferred to the Imo State Police Command, where they were reportedly held for an additional 16 days without being charged to court.
A source close to the family claimed that efforts to secure their bail were frustrated by a senior police officer.
While the matter was ongoing, the U.S.-based Prof. Mgbeke reportedly filed a suit at the Mbano Magistrate Court against Jeff Duru, Ibemere Onyinyechi, Blessing, and the traditional ruler of their autonomous community, alleging threat to life.
The case was struck out by the court on February 26, 2026, for lack of diligent prosecution.
On February 24, Sandra Duru allegedly had her elder brother, Ugochukwu Duru, arrested after he reportedly withdrew from supporting her actions against their siblings and refused to comply with her demands. He was released by the Divisional Police Officer of Isiala Mbano Police Station on February 25 after allegedly being coerced into signing a stringent undertaking prepared by the police.
Members of the autonomous community’s cabinet were also reportedly affected by what sources described as repeated arrests.
In a related development, Sandra was said to have engaged security personnel to seal the compound of her elder brother, Jeff Duru, including his hotel project under construction in Mbano, without a court order.
It was further gathered that a case has been filed at the Federal High Court in Owerri against Sandra Duru and the police over alleged violations of the fundamental human rights of Blessing and Onyinyechi.
Efforts to reach Sandra Duru for comment were unsuccessful.
