The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 3,544,850 Nigerians have completed their online pre-registration in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within just three weeks.

The disclosure was made on Monday in a statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun. He noted that the figure covers registrations as of Sunday, September 7, 2025.

“As at Sunday, 7th September 2025, a total of 3,544,850 Nigerians have now pre-registered online in three weeks since the commencement of the exercise on 18th August 2025,” Olumekun stated.

The online registration began on August 18, while physical registration commenced on August 25.

Breakdown of Registrations
According to Olumekun, gender distribution shows that 1,709,933 males, representing 48.24 per cent, and 1,834,917 females, representing 51.76 per cent, have pre-registered.

Youth participation dominated the process, with 2,291,809 young people aged 18–34, representing 64.65 per cent of registrants. Students accounted for 882,441 registrations, representing 24.89 per cent.

In addition, consolidated figures that combine online and physical registration, which started on August 25, show that as of Thursday, September 4, the cumulative number of completed registrations stood at 288,614. This includes 132,634 males (45.96 per cent) and 155,980 females (54.04 per cent).

Again, young people led the exercise, with 215,414 registrants aged 18–34, representing 74.64 per cent. Students made up 114,150, or 39.55 per cent.

Transparency and Safeguards
INEC said that a detailed breakdown of registrations by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status has been uploaded to its website and official platforms for public access.

The Commission commended citizens and organisations that have mobilised civic participation, while also cautioning against illegal registrations.

“Voter registration is only open to citizens who are 18 years or older at the time of registration. It is illegal to encourage underage registration or to register those below 18 in anticipation that they will attain voting age before the 2027 general election,” the Commission warned.

The CVR exercise continues nationwide through both online and in-person registration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
