INEC Announces Dates For Ekiti, Osun Guber Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has announced the dates for the governorship election for Ekiti and Osun States.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu stated this in Abuja while swearing in four new Resident Electoral Commissioners and two others for a second tenure.
Professor Yakubu explained that Ekiti Governorship election would take place on the 20th June 2025 while party primaries would commence on the 20th of October and end on the 10th of November this year to enable Political Parties to upload their nomination forms to the dedicated portal.
On the Osun Governorship election, Profesor Yakubu said it would take place on Saturday, 8th August, next year, while Party primaries would commence on 24th November and end on 15th December this year
According to the INEC chairman, the final list of Candidates will be published on the 9th of March next year.
Professor Yakubu also said that the commission was finalizing preparations for conduct of the remaining seventeen bye-elections and commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR.
In another development, Six Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECS, were sworn in by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
On the occasion, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu said with the swearing-in of the six RECs today, all vacancies have been filled in the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
He said two of the new RECs, Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem and Mukhtar Umar Gajiram, were reappointed for a second term having served for an initial term of five years while the remaining four Dr Sa’ad Umar Idris , Mrs. Feyijimi Saseyi Ibiyemi, Mr.Chukwuemeka Christopher Ibeziako, a private legal practitioner and Alhaji Umar Yusuf Garba were coming into the Commission for the first time.
The RECs were immediately deployed to their various States where they would serve.
Dr.Saa’ad Idris was deployed to Gombe, Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, Cross River, Mrs Feyijimi Saseyi Ibiyemi, Ogun, Muktar Umar Gajiram, Taraba, Chukwuemeka Ibeziako, Abia and Umar Yusuf Garba Sokoto States
