JAMB Targets N23.8bn IGR for 2026, Plans N6bn Remittance to Federation Account
The sum of N23.8 billion was on Wednesday declared by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as its targeted Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the 2026 fiscal year, representing N4 billion higher than its 2025 target.
The projected IGR for 2026, alongside other budget proposals, was presented to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND by Dr.
In his presentation, the JAMB representative disclosed that out of the N23.8 billion targeted IGR, N6 billion would be remitted into the Federal Government’s coffers.
“A total of N30.6 billion budget profile is proposed by JAMB for 2026, out of which N23.8 billion is to be generated internally, while N6 billion will be remitted into the Federation Account as operating surplus for the year,” he said.
Earlier, while giving an account of the 2025 budget performance, the Director informed the committee, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse, that N18.5 billion was generated as IGR in the fiscal year, with N4 billion remitted to the Federation Account as operating surplus.
On preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), he disclosed that 1,000 examination centres have been created, significantly higher than the fewer than 800 centres used in 2025.
Impressed by JAMB’s performance under the leadership of Professor Oloyede, members of the committee, from the Chairman to other senators, gave the examination body a pass mark.
However, Senator Yohanna Amos (Adamawa North) urged JAMB to reduce its current examination fee of N3,500.
In response, the Director explained that the fee previously stood at N5,000 before the current Registrar reduced it to N3,500.
