Just in: Eid ul-Fitr Postponed In Nigeria After Failed Moon Sighting
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has announced that fasting will continue on Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the Shawwal moon marking the end of Ramadan was not sighted in Nigeria.
The announcement was made on Saturday in a statement by the NSCIA Secretary-General, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, under the leadership of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
According to the statement, the council urges Muslims across the country to continue searching for the Shawwal crescent on the 29th day of Ramadan, in line with the established moon sighting and verification protocols.
“If Muslims sight the crescent in accordance with the moon sighting and verification standards, then His Eminence will declare Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the 1st of Shawwal and the official day of Eid ul-Fitr,” Oloyede stated.
With this announcement, Nigerian Muslims will observe an additional day of fasting, while awaiting further confirmation from the Sultan on the commencement of Eid celebrations.
