A 15-year-old girl, Endurance Sabon, has suffered the loss of her hand following a violent attack in the Goska community of Kaninkon Ward, Kafanchan, in Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident reportedly occurred after her family declined a marriage proposal allegedly made by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

According to a family source, the assailants had earlier approached the girl’s mother on the family’s farm on Friday morning, insisting that the teenager be given to one of them in marriage. The demand was said to have been brushed aside and treated as a joke.

The source disclosed that later that day, around 6:30 p.m., the attackers reportedly followed the family from the farm and ambushed them while they were waiting for a motorcycle to convey them home. Using a torchlight, the attackers allegedly identified the teenager, dragged her into nearby bushes and severed her hand.

Following the attack, the victim was first taken to the General Hospital in Kafanchan. She was subsequently referred to a private medical facility and later transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital due to the seriousness of her injuries.

The family said five suspects have so far been arrested from an alleged nine-man group linked to the attack. They added that the suspects are familiar faces in the area and live close to the family’s farm.

They have appealed to the Kaduna State Government and relevant security agencies for urgent medical support for the victim, enhanced security in the community and the diligent prosecution of those arrested.

Residents of Goska community say the incident has further heightened concerns over insecurity, forced marriages and violent attacks in the area.
