Minister restates FG’s partnership with ALGON on sustainable energy devt

Chief Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, has restated the Federal Government’s commitment to building partnership with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) on the Sustainable Energy Access Project (SEAP).

Nnaji said this at the National conference themed “Driving Sustainable Development Through Local Government Areas (LGAs)” in Abuja.

The conference was organised by ALGON in collaboration with Aspitah Global Resources Ltd.

The minister described SEAP as the key initiative of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to him, the President’s agenda has provided tremendous opportunities for the development of Nigeria’s energy sector.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the conference explored decentralisation, collaboration with investors, and empowerment through Small Medium Enterprise Business, as well as agriculture, energy transition, and security.

In his remarks, the National President of ALGON, Hon. Bello Lawal, thanked President Bola Tinubu for hosting the conference at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Lawal, who was represented by Chief Odunayo Ategbero, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, ALGON, emphasised the conference’s potential to benefit communities through engagement and mobilisation.

He noted the conference’s timeliness, given the Autonomy Judgment of July 11, 2024.

The ALGON President said the theme of this conference highlighted the importance of strengthening rural governance capacity.

According to him, discussions focus on strategies for sustainable development, which are crucial for Nigeria’s growth.

Also speaking, Ms. Latifah Isah of Aspitah Global Resources Ltd., thanked ALGON for making the event a national necessity.

According to her, this conference marks a significant step towards strengthening rural governance and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria’s local governments.

Key focus areas of the conference included security and community safety, rural community empowerment through value chain development, climate smart agriculture, renewable energy, industrial transformation, and Localising the Sustainable Development Goals. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
