MRS Filling Station Reduces Petrol Price to Compete with NNPCL
By Iyojo Ameh
MRS Filling Station, a retail partner of Dangote Refinery, has slashed the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N905 per litre, down from N945, in a strategic move to stay competitive with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other major petroleum marketers.
The new price took effect on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at MRS outlets in Kubwa and along the Lugbe Expressway in Abuja. The price adjustment followed an announcement on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, indicating a nationwide downward review of petrol prices.
This development comes shortly after Dangote Refinery reduced its ex-depot price from N880 to N840 per litre, sparking a reaction from downstream marketers aiming to retain market share and customer loyalty.
Consequently, MRS has implemented revised pricing across its stations nationwide:
N885 per litre in Lagos, N895 in the South-West and N915 in the South-East.
In a parallel move, NNPCL also reduced its petrol price in Abuja from N945 to N910 per litre over the weekend.
These cuts mean that consumers in Lagos and Abuja now enjoy slightly lower fuel prices, with petrol selling between N885 and N910 per litre at MRS and NNPCL stations. However, as of Monday night, many independent marketers in Abuja were still dispensing PMS at N940 to N945 per litre, suggesting that the full market adjustment is still underway.
