NAF precision strike cripples terrorist camp in Borno’s Timbuktu Triangle
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on January 10, 2026, carried out a precision airstrike that destroyed a terrorists’ camp located within the notorious Timbuktu Triangle of Borno State.
The operation focused on the Abbaga Jiri enclave, long identified as a key insurgent hideout, after credible intelligence revealed the presence of fighters and weapons supplies in the area.
Speaking on the operation, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the mission was executed successfully through the effective coordination of aerial surveillance, air interdiction, and supporting ground forces.
According to him, the precision air interdiction was based on reliable intelligence, resulting in the destruction of terrorist facilities and the elimination of insurgents gathered at the site.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, reaffirmed the Air Force’s resolve to maintain air superiority and deny insurgents any safe haven, as threats to civilians and security personnel persist.
The strike adds to a series of recent NAF operations, including multi-state offensives conducted toward the end of 2025, which significantly disrupted terrorist logistics across Nigeria’s northeast. Borno State remains a major hotspot for Boko Haram and ISWAP activities, with the Timbuktu Triangle—covering border regions—often serving as a base for cross-border militant movements.
Although full battle damage assessments are still ongoing and casualty figures have yet to be confirmed, the operation highlights the renewed momentum of Nigeria’s counter-insurgency campaign as 2026 unfolds.
