The House of Representatives Committee on Finance has raised concerns over the delayed submission of the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) by the Executive, noting that the setback affected its ability to carry out a comprehensive review.

The committee’s Deputy Chairman, Saidu Abdullahi, explained that members were unable to undertake a detailed evaluation of the document because it was received only about a week ago, contrary to the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which stipulates that the framework should be submitted in September.

Although the committee’s Chairman, James Faleke, presented the report, which included proposed adjustments to the crude oil benchmark price and expenditure projections, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, raised concerns over the underlying assumptions, warning of possible revenue shortfalls.

As a result, the House has deferred consideration of the report, pending the submission of a revised version by the committee.
