NIGERIAN CHRISTIAN PILGRIMS MARK 65TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY WITH SERVICE AT MOUNT NEBO, JORDAN
Nigerian Christian pilgrims in Jordan, drawn from Adamawa, Imo, and the Consulars, held an interdenominational service at Mount Nebo to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
This was disclosed in a statement by Celestine Toruka, Deputy Director and Head of Media and Public Relations, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC).
Over 340 pilgrims gathered at the historic mountain where Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt but could not enter the Promised Land. The prayer session, jointly organized by the NCPC and its Jordanian ground handler, was led by His Grace, The Most Rev. Markus Ibrahim, Archbishop of the Province of Jos and Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Yola.
The pilgrims prayed for God’s grace and strength for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the continued sustenance of Nigeria as the nation celebrates its 65th anniversary on October 1. Intercessions were also made for the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, other national leaders, and the leadership of the NCPC.
Furthermore, special prayers were raised for peace across Nigeria and for state governments, particularly those who support pilgrimage initiatives.
As part of their spiritual journey in Jordan, the pilgrims also visited Mount Macherius, where John the Baptist was imprisoned and beheaded by King Herod.
The third batch of pilgrims is scheduled to leave Jordan on September 29 for Israel to continue their 10-day pilgrimage before returning to Nigeria.
