Nigerian Senate Introduces Six Bills, Advances Them to First Reading

On January 28, 2026, the Nigerian Senate introduced six new bills, all of which passed their first reading during plenary.
One of the bills is the Gifted and Talented Centres Establishment Bill, 2026 (HB. 931), sponsored by Senator Bamidele Michael Opeyemi, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District.


Also introduced was the National Economic Coordinating and Intelligence Committee Bill, 2026 (SB. 226), sponsored by Senator Daniel Olugbenga Justus of Ogun East, alongside the National Centre for Economic Management Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (SB. 851), sponsored by Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, representing Borno Central.
Other bills presented include the Veterinary Teaching Hospitals Bill, 2026 (SB. 896), sponsored by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno of Borno North, and the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management (Enforcement) Bill, 2026 (SB. 988), sponsored by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South.
The sixth bill is the National Farmers and Agriculturists Protection Board (Establishment) Bill, 2026 (SB. 987), sponsored by Senator Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi, who represents Imo East Senatorial District.
All six bills successfully passed first reading during the Senate plenary session.
