The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced the opening of additional Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Abuja, Ibadan, and Abeokuta, reinforcing its commitment to providing cleaner and more affordable energy options for Nigerians.

In a public update shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, NNPCL stated: “We are expanding clean energy access, one city at a time. We are now live in Abeokuta, Abuja, and Ibadan. With every new site, we bring Nigerians closer to cleaner, more affordable energy for everyday mobility.”

The new CNG stations are part of NNPCL’s broader strategy to promote the adoption of CNG as a sustainable alternative to conventional fuels like petrol. This initiative aligns with national efforts to reduce transportation costs and curb carbon emissions.

The state-owned energy company has also been ramping up its CNG infrastructure in Lagos and Abuja. Previously commissioned stations include key locations such as Lateef Jakande Road (Agidingbi), Agege Motor Road (Mushin), Lekki-Epe Expressway (Sangotedo), and Mobile Road (Apapa).

In addition, six new mobile CNG refueling stations have been launched in strategic locations across Lagos: Fola Agoro (Shomolu LGA), Alapere SS, Marina, Agege Bypass (Idimangoro), Lakowe SS, and Odogunyan SS (Ikorodu).

According to NNPCL, the CNG stations in Lagos and Abuja have a combined dispensing capacity of over six million standard cubic feet of gas per day, capable of serving an estimated 15,000 vehicles daily.

The latest expansion marks another milestone in NNPCL’s efforts to make CNG more accessible and to advance Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.
