NUJ FCT Moves to Secure Affordable Housing, Congress Hall Support Through Tayan Group Partnership
By Iyojo Ameh
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council has initiated moves to partner with Tayan Group Construction in a bid to expand access to affordable housing for journalists and fast-track the completion of its ultra-modern Congress Hall project in Abuja.
The proposal was made on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the NUJ FCT Council to the headquarters of Tayan Group, where the company’s Managing Director reiterated the firm’s openness to strategic collaborations that support inclusive development, especially within the media sector.

Speaking during the visit, NUJ FCT Chairman, Ms. Grace Ike, expressed appreciation to the management of Tayan Group for the warm reception, describing the construction firm as a major contributor to Abuja’s urban development landscape.
Ike, who represents over 1,500 journalists in the FCT, said the union is keen on forging mutually beneficial partnerships with socially responsible organizations committed to national development.
She appealed to Tayan Group to support the NUJ FCT’s ongoing ultra-modern Congress Hall project, noting that the facility is designed to serve as a hub for media training, professional engagements, and the overall welfare of journalists.
“We humbly seek your support—whether through construction materials or technical expertise—to enable us complete this important project and leave a lasting legacy for journalism in Nigeria,” Ike said.
The NUJ FCT Chairman identified several areas for collaboration, including media promotion of Tayan Group’s projects, joint community initiatives on affordable housing and urban development, capacity-building programmes, and mass housing schemes specifically designed for journalists in Abuja.
She also emphasized the need for infrastructure synergy in realizing the NUJ FCT Journalists Village, which she said would significantly enhance economic empowerment and housing security for media professionals.
Expressing optimism, Ike noted that such a partnership would foster transparency, sustainable development, and shared prosperity within the Federal Capital Territory. She further voiced confidence that the proposed journalists’ mass housing initiative would soon become a reality for NUJ members.
Responding, Tayan Group’s Managing Director, Mr. Akinjide Fabgemi, described the engagement with the NUJ FCT Council as “long overdue” and commended the union’s leadership under Ms. Grace Ike.
“We consider all our clients as family, and collaboration is how the world works today. No organization can thrive alone, and the media remains one of the most important pillars of our business,” Fabgemi said.
He affirmed Tayan Group’s readiness to collaborate with the NUJ FCT Council across multiple areas, stressing that media credibility and visibility play a crucial role in the success of real estate developments.
“We are ready and willing to partner with the NUJ FCT Council, and we believe such collaboration will produce positive outcomes for both parties,” he added.
On affordable housing delivery, Fabgemi disclosed that Tayan Group provides a broad range of land and housing options across Abuja to accommodate different income levels.
“We offer land and housing solutions for everyone—from as low as ₦600,000 to luxury properties valued at over ₦100 million. Our goal is to ensure that even the poorest of the poor can have a roof over their heads,” he said.
He further assured NUJ members of flexible payment options, including structured plans of up to two years for land acquisition, as well as longer mortgage tenures of up to 20 years through partner financial institutions.
“Our properties are among the most affordable wherever we operate—not because we want to undercut the market, but because we understand how difficult it is to earn money. Our flexible payment plans and open-door policy remain some of the best in the industry,” Fabgemi noted.
