While welcoming the NNPCL delegation, NLNG’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Philip Mshelbila, briefed Engr. Ojulari on the company’s operations and business outlook. He described NNPCL as a reliable shareholder that remains committed to NLNG’s development, securing the gas value chain, and addressing the challenges the company has faced in recent times.
Mshelbila stressed the importance of synergy among stakeholders in achieving Nigeria’s national energy objectives. He highlighted the urgent need for deliberate investments in the gas sector to stabilise gas supply, de-risk critical infrastructure, and unlock upstream investments. According to him, such efforts are essential for sustaining growth momentum, deepening value delivery, and exploring future opportunities.
He added that these initiatives would better position NLNG to deliver consistent gas output, strengthen investor confidence, and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global energy market.
In his remarks, Engr. Ojulari reaffirmed NLNG’s critical role in driving Nigeria’s energy transition, economic stability, and industrial development. He described NLNG as “a beacon of governance, performance, transparency, and sustainability” within the country’s dynamic energy sector.
The NNPCL chief noted that the visit provided an opportunity to engage with the NLNG team, review operational progress, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, enhance plant availability, and increase revenue generation for the nation. He also disclosed plans for a dynamic Gas Master Plan and the exploration of hydrogen collaboration opportunities with NLNG in preparation for a net-zero future.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emeka Vitalis, underscored NLNG’s strategic importance as a key driver of energy transition and a pillar of national economic stability. He highlighted the critical role of Train 7 in meeting Nigeria’s export targets and strengthening national resilience.
Dr. Vitalis emphasised the need for strong asset integrity, noting that achieving zero emissions across the gas supply chain would be crucial to NLNG’s long-term success in the energy transition era. He added that the company’s exemplary asset management practices remain a source of national pride.
During the visit, Engr. Ojulari toured key operational facilities, including the main plant complex and the Train 7 construction site — a flagship expansion project expected to significantly increase NLNG’s production capacity.
He was received by Mr. Mshelbila alongside Nnamdi Anowi, General Manager, Production; Sophia Horsfall, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development; Aka Nwokedi, General Counsel; Fatima Adanan, General Manager, Finance; Ekeinde Ohiwerei, General Manager, Corporate Services; and other members of the NLNG leadership team.
