Otti Leads Labour Party Delegation to INEC Following Supreme Court Verdict
By Iyojo Ameh
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on Wednesday led a high-powered delegation of the Labour Party (LP) on a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
The visit comes in the wake of the recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the party’s leadership, a development seen as a potential turning point in resolving internal disputes within the party.
Governor Otti and his delegation formally presented a Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgment to the Commission, signaling a move towards consolidating the party’s internal cohesion and fostering institutional collaboration.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Otti described the engagement as part of efforts to strengthen democratic processes and ensure clarity in party administration.
“We came here with a message of clarity and collaboration,” he said. “As a party, we believe in the rule of law and democratic values. It was important that INEC, as our foremost electoral institution, is fully apprised of the recent Supreme Court decision on our party’s leadership.”
Receiving the delegation, INEC’s Acting Chairman, Mr. Sam Olumekun, assured the party of the Commission’s continued commitment to neutrality and transparency in the discharge of its duties.
“INEC remains committed to neutrality, transparency, and the rule of law,” Olumekun said. “We will continue to discharge our constitutional responsibilities without fear or favor.”
The meeting is expected to enhance cooperation between the electoral body and the Labour Party as the party moves to reposition itself ahead of future political engagements.
