The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has officially reacted to the defection of Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a personal political decision that must be respected.

In a statement issued after its State Working Committee (SWC) meeting on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Calabar, the PDP said it received the news of Senator Jarigbe’s defection with “mixed feelings.

The party commended the senator, who represents Cross River North Senatorial District, for his contributions to the growth and stability of the PDP both in the state and at the national level, wishing him success in his new political journey.

Addressing the development, the PDP leadership called on its members across the state to remain calm and united, assuring them that the party remains strong, resilient, and committed to rebuilding and restoring the confidence of Cross Riverians through democratic means.

“The PDP remains the only truly people-oriented platform dedicated to the service of all Cross Riverians,” the statement read.

The party reaffirmed its resolve to strengthen its structures at all levels despite recent political shifts.

The statement was signed by Joe Obi Bisong, State Secretary of the PDP, Cross River State.
