President Tinubu Tasks Acting IGP Disu on Peace Restoration, Stronger National Security
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to restore peace and strengthen security operations across the country.
The President gave the directive on Wednesday at the State House during the decoration ceremony of Disu as Acting IGP, following the retirement of Kayode Egbetokun.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu expressed confidence in Disu’s ability to lead the Nigeria Police Force at a critical period.
“I made this decision for you to assume this responsibility. I know your record. I saw the dedication you exhibited while you were in Lagos when I was governor,” the President said.
He urged the Acting IGP to rebuild public trust in the police and collaborate effectively with other security agencies to enhance safety nationwide.
“Lead firmly but fairly, demand professionalism at every level and ensure that the safety of lives and property remains our highest priority. It’s a daunting challenge. I know you can do it. You have my word, you have my full support,” Tinubu added.
The President further charged Disu to align policing strategies with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that Nigeria continues to face banditry, terrorism and other criminal activities.
“Nigeria is challenged with banditry, terrorism and other criminal activities. You will be part of the thinking and innovation to overcome them,” he said.
Tinubu also paid tribute to the outgoing IGP, Egbetokun, commending him for his service and contributions to maintaining law and order. He encouraged him to provide guidance to his successor.
“You have not succeeded without a good successor. His success will also be part of your legacy,” the President stated, wishing Egbetokun and his family well.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori; and retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, alongside senior government officials and members of the Acting IGP’s family.
