Prof. Eni Commends Senator Orji Kalu for Enhancing Abia Students’ Success in National Examinations

Renowned educationist, Professor Kalu Eni, has praised former Abia State Governor and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, for his extensive investment in education, describing it as a key factor behind the exceptional performance of Abia students in recent national examinations.

Prof. Eni noted that the remarkable results recorded across the state were direct outcomes of Senator Kalu’s consistent interventions in the education sector.

He highlighted that the free distribution of learning materials — including science textbooks in mathematics, biology, physics, and chemistry — alongside the provision of school bags, desks, and the renovation of dilapidated classrooms, has significantly improved learning outcomes.

“The free supply of educational materials and school renovations initiated by Senator Kalu are already producing visible results,” Prof. Eni stated. “These efforts have enhanced access to quality education for thousands of pupils and students across Abia North and beyond.”

During his tenure as Governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007, Senator Kalu introduced a free-education policy covering pupils and students from primary to tertiary levels. His administration renovated over 800 schools, built more than 500 new classrooms, and distributed over 150,000 desks and benches to public schools across the state.

As Senator representing Abia North, Kalu has sustained his focus on education through initiatives such as the provision of desks, science textbooks, laboratory equipment, and the construction and renovation of classrooms in Umunneochi, Isikwuato, Bende, Ohafia, and Arochukwu. He has also awarded scholarships to students in tertiary institutions.

Recently, his aides supervised the delivery of new desks and learning materials to Amankalu Primary School, Alayi, and St. Joseph Primary School, Alayi, among other schools in Bende Local Government Area — part of his ongoing educational support projects.

In 2022, the Senate Press Corps honoured Senator Kalu as the Overall Best Senator in Constituency Projects and Human Relations, recognizing his extensive contributions in education, health, and infrastructure.

“What Senator Orji Uzor Kalu accomplished as both governor and senator remains indelible. He laid the groundwork for modern Abia, and his legacy is still evident in our schools and communities,” Prof. Eni remarked.

He further emphasized that the outstanding academic results of Abia students underscore the transformative power of consistent investment and sound educational policy. Prof. Eni urged other leaders to emulate Senator Kalu’s example, describing him as “a visionary leader who believes in empowering young minds through knowledge.”
