The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged both leaders and citizens to rise above ethnic, religious, and political affiliations in the collective pursuit of Nigeria’s national goals.

In his message commemorating the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary, CAN President, Most Reverend Daniel Okoh, expressed confidence that Nigeria can overcome its current challenges through collective sacrifice, patriotism, and faith in God.

He listed terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and communal conflicts as some of the pressing challenges that have inflicted deep pain and displacement on communities across the country.

While commending the Federal Government for strides made in tackling insecurity, Reverend Okoh emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between security agencies, local communities, and faith-based organizations to consolidate peace and stability nationwide.

He further stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment for citizens, particularly the youth, to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development. According to him, young people remain Nigeria’s greatest asset, but the continued brain drain poses a critical challenge.

“We acknowledge the undeniable progress recorded in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, telecommunications, and other sectors over the decades. From a handful of schools and institutions at independence, our country today boasts of thousands, producing generations of young men and women who continue to shape the nation’s future,” he said.

He also appealed to Nigerians to embrace hard work, pay taxes faithfully, support local production, and show love to one another.

“With God’s help and our shared determination, we shall build a nation where peace, prosperity, and unity flourish for generations to come,” he assured.
