Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has appointed a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and a new Chief of Staff at Government House, Port Harcourt.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the governor named Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the new SSG and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the new Chief of Staff.

The appointments were conveyed in a Special Government Announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, and made available to journalists.
According to the statement, both appointments take immediate effect. No reason was provided for the removal of the former occupants of the offices.
The statement added that the new appointees would be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. at Government House, Port Harcourt.
It read:
“The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff.
“Both appointments are with immediate effect. The new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, February 26, 2026.
“The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.”
The new SSG replaces Mr Benibo Anabraba, while the new Chief of Staff replaces Edison Ehie.
Ehie’s position had earlier generated speculation following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the political crisis in the state, with sources alleging he had continued to function in the role behind the scenes.
The latest appointments are believed to be connected to the recent reconciliation between Fubara and his former political ally, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, after the President intervened to stop the planned impeachment of the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly and broker peace between the two leaders.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, had announced during plenary last week that the House formally withdrew its impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, following the President’s intervention.
Recently, the governor dissolved his cabinet of eight commissioners and relieved all his Special Advisers of their duties.
