=The Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association (ROSOWA) has announced plans to collaborate with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and other relevant organizations to promote road safety awareness and discourage unsafe practices such as scooping fuel at accident scenes.

Speaking at the first General meeting on Saturday 25th 2025 in Abuja, ROSOWA President, Dr. Nafisah Shehu Mohammed, strongly condemned the dangerous practice of scooping fuel at accident scenes, following a series of tragic incidents, including a recent tanker explosion in Niger State that claimed multiple lives.

She described the practice as life-threatening and preventable, emphasizing the need for public education to prevent such dangerous behaviors.

“Scooping fuel at accident scenes has caused avoidable loss of lives in our country. The recent tragedy in Niger State and similar incidents across the nation are heartbreaking reminders of why we must educate the public on the dangers of this behavior,” she said.

“Our mission is to promote safety awareness. Children, adults, and the entire community must understand road safety rules,” she said.
“If necessary, we will work with key agencies to educate the public on this critical issue.”

Beyond safety advocacy, the ROSOWA president underscored the importance of women’s economic empowerment, calling on women to support their families and communities.

“It’s not always the man’s responsibility to provide everything,” she said. “Sometimes, women must step up to help their partners and children. Even standing independently as a woman can make a huge difference.”

She also highlighted welfare as a cornerstone of the association’s mission, encouraging members to support one another in times of need.

“We should be our sisters’ keepers. A small contribution—be it N200 or N500—can go a long way in helping someone in need,” she remarked.
“It’s about showing love and solidarity within our community.”

Dr. Mohammed revealed plans to host talks on personal development, including topics like financial literacy, grooming, motherhood, and etiquette.

“We need to improve ourselves and make meaningful changes in our lives,” she said.

She however called for active participation from members, urging them to attend meetings and contribute their ideas.

“The strength of our association lies in our commitment. By coming together, we can achieve extraordinary things,” she said. “Your input is vital. When we share ideas as a family, it helps us grow and move forward.”

She discouraged the habit of patronizing loan sharks and relying on frequent loan acquisitions, which often lead to debt, urging them to adopt better financial habits.

“Relying on loans creates unnecessary financial burdens. Instead, we should focus on acquiring soft skills, practicing prudent savings, and effective financial planning,” she said.

She further encouraged women to support their husbands through responsible financial management, adding, “By contributing financially and managing resources wisely, we can strengthen our families and build a more stable future.”

She, however, called for active participation and commitment from members.

“The strength of our association lies in our dedication. By coming together, we can achieve extraordinary things,” Dr. Mohammed said. “When we share ideas as a family, it helps us grow and move forward. Let’s support one another and build a stronger, safer community.”
