Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has congratulated Alhaji Aliko Dangote on the landmark accomplishment of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in reaching and sustaining its full 650,000 barrels per day capacity on its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Motor Spirit (MS) Block.
In a statement issued by his media office on Thursday evening, Senator Kalu described the feat as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s industrial advancement, noting that it reflects visionary leadership, technical expertise, and steadfast dedication to national growth.
“This marks a defining moment for Nigeria and Africa at large,” Senator Kalu said. “Attaining and maintaining 650,000 barrels per day at full nameplate capacity is a global milestone that showcases engineering capability, operational efficiency, and strategic planning.”
The former Governor of Abia State and renowned businessman recalled his recent inspection visit to the refinery with other South East senators, stating that what he observed during the tour convinced him the achievement was imminent.
“During my recent visit with my distinguished colleagues from the South East, I was convinced that this milestone was only a matter of time,” he said. “The magnitude of the investment, the advanced technology deployed, and the professionalism of the workforce assured us that Nigeria was on the brink of something historic. I am pleased to see that vision now fully actualized.”
Senator Kalu noted that the refinery’s ability to produce up to 75 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit daily would substantially cut Nigeria’s reliance on fuel imports, preserve foreign exchange, and enhance energy security.
He added that beyond its domestic impact, the refinery establishes Nigeria as a key energy hub for West and Central Africa.
“This accomplishment will not only serve Nigeria but also benefit neighboring countries. It strengthens our economic leadership in the region and supports our shared pursuit of energy independence.”
Praising Alhaji Dangote’s determination and patriotism, Senator Kalu described the refinery as a transformative project that will create an enduring legacy for future generations.
