Senegal’s 2026 World Cup jersey omits second star after AFCON title controversy

Senegal’s 2026 World Cup kit will not display a second star that would have symbolised their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph, following the controversial stripping of the title.
Kit manufacturer Puma unveiled the designs for the upcoming tournament on Friday, with Senegal’s jersey featuring only one star to represent their 2021 AFCON success.

The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) explained that production timelines made it impossible to include the second star. According to the federation, updated jerseys bearing the additional star are already in production and are expected to be released in September.
Senegal had defeated Morocco 1-0 in the 2025 AFCON final in January. However, on Tuesday, the Confederation of African Football announced that the result had been overturned, with Senegal forfeiting the match and Morocco declared champions instead.
In a statement addressing public reactions, the FSF said the jerseys currently in circulation were produced before the tournament.
“The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) wishes to clarify the situation following the reactions to the release of the new national team jerseys, which feature a single star,” the statement read.
“The FSF informs the public that production of these jerseys began in August 2025 by our kit supplier, Puma, prior to the last Africa Cup of Nations. Following our victory, manufacturing deadlines and industrial constraints prevented us from interrupting this ongoing process.
“Aware of the Senegalese people’s legitimate attachment to their national symbols, the FSF wishes to reassure all supporters: the new jerseys incorporating the second star are currently in production. They are scheduled to be available starting next September.
“The FSF apologises for any misunderstanding this situation may have caused and thanks the supporters for their continued support, vigilance, and unwavering loyalty to the national team.”
Morocco’s World Cup kit, also produced by Puma, similarly does not feature a star to represent either their 1976 AFCON victory or the newly awarded 2025 title. Their AFCON 2025 jersey had also omitted a star marking the 1976 triumph.
