Southern Senators Mourn Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona

The Southern Senators Forum has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, who died at the age of 91.
This is contained in a statement by chairman of the forum, senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
The statement reads:
“Oba Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, reigned for over six decades and was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most respected and longest-serving monarchs. He was celebrated for his intellect, vision, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people and the broader Nigerian society”
“Throughout his reign, the Awujale championed good governance, social justice, and development, making significant contributions to the growth of Ijebuland. Under his leadership, the region experienced notable socio-economic advancement, and his strong advocacy for education and public accountability left a lasting imprint on national discourse”
“A courageous voice in Nigeria’s traditional leadership structure, Oba Adetona was known for his principled stance on issues of national importance. He often spoke truth to power and remained a beacon of integrity and unity, promoting peace and dialogue across cultural and political divides”
“His legacy is also preserved through initiatives like the Oba Sikiru Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance at Olabisi Onabanjo University, a project that underscores his belief in leadership development and democratic values”
“As the nation mourns, the Southern Senators Forum has extended its condolences to the royal family, the people of Ijebuland, the Ogun State Government, and all Nigerians touched by his impactful life. The Forum described Oba Adetona’s passing as a monumental loss but also a moment to celebrate a life lived with honor, wisdom, and purpose”
