The None- in- the-sense Of Mba’ Defection
by Dr jarlat Uche opara
Nigeria is gradually sliding into one party system. One party that isn’t built and driven by ideological depth and disposition, rather one that is weaved around “grabiology” and party halo effect syndrome.
Party structure by my understanding is meant for election purposes not for governance.
Governance in an ideal situation isn’t driven by party affiliation, rather by personal experience, capacity and innovative ingenuity of whoever is the leader for the good of all regardless of party membership. There are many APC Governors that are hitting below the belt and crawling on the highway of enfrastructural development and democratic dividends. In same way there are many governors in opposition parties that are amazingly breaking records and setting new ones positively.
When Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno defected to APC, one of his reasons was to connect to the central government and aid the President drive his renewed hope agenda. Since after the defection what has happened differently?
When the Governor of Delta State Sheriff Oborevwori defected, same reason was adduced. What happened differently after the defection?
The Enugu State Governor, Bar. Peter Mba, is singing same song, one wonders the sense in this nonsense lyrics. Surprisingly all these Governors mentioned above were doing well under their party before defection. The won elections under same party with their supporters very much intact and supportive.
They have their monthly allocation remmited regardless of party affiliation. Some of them that are working, renovated Federal roads in their States and got reimbursement by the Federal Government.
What is the attraction to defect to the ruling party if not because of political insecurity and phobia of the unknown during election and possible manipulation of results using the Federal Government tools and agents.
This is where the problem is and if not addressed would make our democracy look like a joke cracked at beer parlours and comedy stands .
Mr Wike was an opposition governor for eight years. He did well as a governor and resisted any infiltration, arm-twisting, intimidation etc by the Federal Government. He didn’t defect, yet he was a good and fantastic governor comparatively.
The truth is, any governor that is defecting to the ruling party is solely doing it for the protection and shielding of his political future not for the good of the state. Such a governor is at best a weak governor who lacks balls and energy to fight opposition’ manipulation of election results.
Dr. Sam Mbakwe was in opposition party, he did well as the Governor of Imo State regardless and still won elections with the organic support of his people.
To those Governors who are defecting and abandoning the platforms that gave them initial victory and visibility, there is what is called karma and law of redistributive justice. Such laws are effective, potent and would always strike unexpectedly. Bitting the hands that fed one isn’t a virtue, it comes with consequences too.
To Governor Peter Mba of Enugu State. There is what is called the influence of associations. I pray APC does influence you negatively and dim the glowing light you are already bringing to the State. I hope it won’t be a case of flying from an anthill to the ground or from frying pan to fire. According Mr Nyesom Wike PDP is mere malaria illness while APC is a cancer. I guess it rings a bell?
Last line: *A leader who knows his onion, who is visionary with a clear cut road map of where he is headed is always self confident to deliver even in the desert, he would always pull through regardless of being in the opposition*.
