Three Killed in Catholic Church Shooting in Minneapolis …17 Others Injured, Including Children
Three people, including two children and the gunman, lost their lives on Tuesday following a shooting incident at a Catholic church in Minneapolis, United States.
The victims were two pupils aged two and eight, while the gunman, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, reportedly took his own life after the attack.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, the assailant, armed with a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol, acted alone. He allegedly abandoned a vehicle before storming Annunciation Catholic Church, where school children were attending Mass. The church also houses the school, which had just resumed for the new academic session last week.
Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that 17 others, including 14 children, sustained injuries during the assault. Two of the victims remain in critical condition. O’Hara described the shooting as a deliberate act of targeting children.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, apologizing for the security lapse and extending condolences to the bereaved families. “Nobody deserves to die in such a manner,” he said.
Mass shootings continue to be a recurring tragedy across the United States.
