Kano State has been thrown into grief following the brutal murder of respected journalist Sadiq Gentle, a Senior Special Reporter attached to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s office.

Gentle was attacked in his home by suspected thugs who macheted him, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was scheduled for surgery, but his health deteriorated and he eventually passed away.

A close friend, Mujtaba Muhammad Auwal, confirmed the attack, saying: “Some thugs broke into his house, stabbed him, and took his phones. He couldn’t make it.”

His death comes amid rising insecurity in Kano. Only recently, a Bayero University Kano (BUK) student was stabbed to death in Dorayi, fueling fear among residents who now ask: “Who’s next?”

Shockingly, authorities in Kano have remained silent on the killing at the time of this report, a move that has provoked outrage among citizens who insist that the wave of violence is spiraling out of control.

Friends, colleagues, and fellow journalists have taken to social media to mourn Gentle, describing him as humble, hardworking, and truly gentle. One mourner wrote: “Sadiq didn’t deserve this. Kano must do better.”
