Veteran Broadcaster Reuben Okala Named Interim National President of IIJAA

Veteran broadcaster and seasoned media executive, Reuben Okala, has been appointed the Interim National President of the International Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (IIJAA), a development widely regarded as a significant step forward for the association.
Speaking after his appointment, Dr.

Okala expressed appreciation to members of the association for the trust placed in him, assuring them of purposeful, inclusive and visionary leadership. He stated that his administration would prioritise repositioning the association and restoring the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) to its respected status within Nigeria’s media landscape.
“I am deeply honoured by this responsibility and I will work tirelessly with my team to surpass expectations and advance the core ideals of the institute,” Okala said.
His emergence has been warmly received by stakeholders, who view his appointment as a strategic gain for IIJAA, considering his decades of experience in broadcast journalism and media management. Many believe his leadership will enhance alumni participation, promote professional excellence and improve the visibility of the institute.
The Patron of the association, Maj. Prof. Aku A. Amboson (rtd), urged the newly inaugurated Interim Executive Committee to demonstrate commitment, unity and innovation in tackling the challenges facing the association.
“The task ahead is demanding, but with dedication and collective effort, IIJ can reclaim its former glory,” Prof. Amboson noted.
Members of the Interim Executive Committee are: Reuben Okala (President), Dr. Prince Omeni (Vice President), Ms. Flora Anne (General Secretary), Ms. Elizabeth Ndem (Assistant General Secretary), Mr. Amadi Uyi (Treasurer), Princess Joy Idam (Legal Adviser), Mr. Felix Ojo (Public Relations Officer), Ms. Charity Ikenwa O. (Assistant PRO), Mahmud Abubakar (Welfare Officer), Ms. Rachel Tokura (Auditor), Ms. Comfort Chukwule (Financial Secretary), and Prophet Anuoluwapo Samuel (Special Adviser), with Prof. Aku A. Amboson serving as Patron.
The IIJAA is an umbrella body comprising graduates of the International Institute of Journalism, playing a vital role in promoting professional development, ethical journalism and collaboration within the media industry.
Reuben Okala is an award-winning journalist with over three decades of service at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). He is currently the Head of Station, KAFTAN TV, Abuja. Observers believe his appointment positions the association for renewed relevance and a positive impact on Nigeria’s media sector.
