Zamfara: Serving Lawmaker Defects to APC
By our Reporter
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has suffered another major blow following the defection of a serving member of the State House of Assembly representing Maradun II Constituency, Hon. Maharazu Salisu, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Salisu announced his defection on Tuesday at the APC State Secretariat in Gusau, citing mounting pressure from his constituents who expressed dissatisfaction over what they described as the PDP government’s failure to deliver meaningful development projects in the area.
He explained, “My esteemed constituents, whom I represent at the State House of Assembly, summoned me and lamented that the ruling PDP has failed to fulfil the campaign promises made by Governor Dauda Lawal. Despite my efforts to attract development to my constituency, all attempts have been unsuccessful.”
The lawmaker further alleged that his constituency had been sidelined from state government projects and political appointments, saying, “Apart from being excluded from government projects, no political appointment has been given to my constituency or Maradun Local Government as a whole.”
Hon. Salisu disclosed that his defection was alongside PDP leaders across five wards in his constituency—Faru/Magami, Gidan Goga, Kaya, Tsibiri, and Gora—as well as another ward in Maradun town.
Receiving the defectors, the APC State Chairman, Hon. Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, described the move as a clear indication that the party was becoming stronger and more united across Zamfara.
Maikatako commended the leadership of the APC in the state, including former Governor and Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, for their consistent efforts to uplift the people of the state through empowerment and poverty alleviation initiatives.
He said, “This development shows that in the coming weeks, Zamfara will be fully APC. We assure all new members that they will be treated equally and given every opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of the party at both the state and national levels.”
