15 Countries To Participate In 2026 African Weaving Festival As Committees Inaugurated

Five Committees for the conduct of this year’s edition of African Weaving Festival, AWeF, have been inaugurated.

The Committees are: Central Planning, Media and Publicity a Secretariat, Mobilization , logistics and Protocol, Marketing and Sponsorship and Content and Programs Design

Inaugurating the Committees in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Social Development Secretariat, SDS, in FCT Administration, Ms Olubunmi Olowookere advised members of the Committees to consolidate on the successes recorded in last year’s edition of the Festival.

Ms Olowookere who described weaving festival as critical to peace, unity and economic development in African continent called for more funding and investment in the sector towards economic diversification.

She promised that the FCT Administration would continue to support the weaving festival towards actualizing its set objectives especially as a brand that would not only promote Abuja and FCT also a source of empowerment for women and youths

In a remark, the Executive Director, Mobilization, African Weaving Festival, AWeF, Mr Sam Agbi said about fifteen African countries are expected to participate in this year’s edition of the Festival being scheduled for the last week in the month of 8th – 12th December ,2026 at the premises of the FCT Council for Arts and Culture, Area 10, Garki Abuja.

Mr Sam Agbi who highlighted the successes recorded in the 2025 edition of the Festival stated that the inauguration of the Committees was to ensure proper and effective planning for this year’s edition towards making it one of the best festival in the African continent.

He explained that the Committees are made of stakeholders from the Culture and Tourism industry as well as the public and private sectors

Mr Sam Agbi added that after the ceremony, inaugural meeting would be held to kick start preparations, align stakeholders and mobilize partnership as well as officially announce the 4th edition, engage stakeholders on vision, theme and scope among others.

AWeF is a flagship cultural and creative platform promoting African textile heritage and craftsmanship.
