2027: Obidient Movement Urges Peaceful Political Participation

The Obidient Movement has condemned reported attacks on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and other Nigerians during a political march in Warri, Delta State.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Worldwide Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, in Abuja.

The statement expressed concern over what it described as growing incidents of political violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It called on security agencies to investigate the reported attacks and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice, regardless of their political affiliation.

The statement also referenced the reported attack on an NDC ward meeting in Obuofia, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, on September 12.
According to the statement, the Enugu State Police Command confirmed that armed hoodlums disrupted the NDC gathering, with two attendees reportedly injured, and ordered an investigation into the incident.

It added that the NDC had separately reported that eight of its members sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.

The Obidient Movement said political parties and their supporters should be allowed to organise meetings, mobilise voters and campaign peacefully without intimidation or violence.

It urged security agencies to remain impartial and provide adequate protection for political gatherings as activities leading to the 2027 elections intensify.

The statement stressed that political disagreements should be resolved through democratic processes and the ballot box rather than confrontation.

It also called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and ensure that their activities do not threaten the safety of citizens.

The statement reaffirmed its support for the right of Nigerians to participate in political activities and urged all stakeholders to respect the law and the rights of other citizens.

It said the 2027 elections should be determined by voters through a peaceful and credible electoral process.

According to the statement, the Obidient Movement urged Nigerians and political actors to reject political violence and work towards peaceful participation throughout the electoral period.
